Food Groups Revisited

It’s always good to revisit the basics; so here we go, the food groups!

Calorie Yielding Foods 
Carbohydrate aka Carbs

Example: Rice, pasta, bread, potato etc.

1 gram = 4 calories

Alcohol belongs to the carb group but one gram of alcohol gives you 7 calories.

Protein

Example: Chicken, pork, beef etc.

1 gram = 4 Calories

Fat

Example: Butter, oil, lard ect.

1 gram = 9 calories

Non Calorie Yielding Foods
Minerals

Vitamins

Electrolytes

This group does not give you the calories, but it is essential for our metabolism.
